Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation is an integrated chemical company that was created by the merger of Mitsubishi Kasei Corporation and Mitsubishi Petrochemical Co. Ltd. on October 1, 1994. Mitsubishi Chemical's wide-ranging operations place it among the world's top ten chemical companies in terms of operating scale.
To make polyester, nylon and acrylic, four fiber intermediates are used - purified terephthalic acid (PTA), ethylene glycol, caprolactam and acrylonitrile. Mitsubishi Chemical is the world's only company to produce all of these materials.
In the field of polyester, Mitsubishi Chemical is advancing the use of polyester in such applications as PET bottles through its wholly owned subsidiary, Novapex.
